Writing the speech

Just before the service, I took advantage of the dictionary in our bedroom to do a little bit of last minute work on my speech. I decided to look up the word ‘bride’. The definition of is the first person to put her foot down after being carried over the threshold by her husband.

When it came to writing this speech I wasn’t short of material. Although most of it I’ve had to edit, throw away, burn or hand over to the police to help them with their enquiries. So this is what’s left over.
